Police say hit and run driver strikes 12-year-old pedestrian, flees scene

LITTLE ROCK (KATV) - Little Rock police arrest Estefana De Maria Garza-Alarcon after allegedly driving and hitting a 12-year-old pedestrian then fleeing the scene.

Two officers approached the intersection of Baseline Road and Oman Road Wednesday afternoon to find a 12-year-old child lying in the street. According to LRPD, it appeared that he had been hit by a blue Chevrolet Aveo while walking home from school.{} The driver saw the officers, and then got into her car a left the scene.{}

The officers immediately tended to the needs of the unconscious child.{}Officers at Baseline Road and Chicot Road stopped the vehicle and took the driver into custody.{}

The child was transported by MEMS to Children's Hospital.

The 22-year-old driver was charged with a hit and run and driving without a license.{} A hold was placed on Mrs. Garaza-Alarcon as she was believed to be a flight risk.{} Mrs. Garza-Alarcon is a Guatemalan citizen.

The victim was said to be in stable condition and had non-life threatening but serious injuries.
