A Hope police officer died this weekend after an 18 day battle with the West Nile Virus.
The Hope Police Department says that Sergeant David "D.J." Johnson passed away Saturday afternoon.
"David was a giant of a man that touched the lives of so many people. He was a true public servant who cared for the City of Hope, Arkansas and its entire people. David's legacy will live on in our department. He was a special person, a tremendous Sergeant and wonderful friend," said Hope Police Chief JR Wilson.
In a press release sent to local media, the Department says that "representatives of the department were with David's family in the last hours as we all huddled around in support and celebration of David's wonderful and service filled life."
A memorial service for Sergeant Johnson will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Hope.
