Hot Springs board to consider Oaklawn expansion
HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (AP) - The Hot Springs Board of Directors is considering a resolution this week to approve a site plan for a major expansion at Oaklawn Park.
A resident appealed the Hot Springs Planning Commission's approval of the site plan for the racetrack. The Hot Springs Board of Directors is to vote on the plan Tuesday night.
The thoroughbred racetrack wants to expand its number of gambling tables and machines by about 50%.
The Sentinel-Record reports (http://bit.ly/16xeR8R ) that the appeal questions whether Oaklawn will have sufficient parking to handle peak crowds during live racing season. The appeal also questions whether the expansion required a new rezoning for Oaklawn.
Hot Springs planning and development director Kathy Sellman says code requirements were met and Oaklawn's current zoning allows the expansion.
