Hot stretch saves day for Warren pink tomato fest

WARREN, Ark. (AP) - Rest assured, tomato fans. There are enough pink tomatoes for Bradley County's annual festival to go on this weekend.

The pink tomato supply was scarce because of cool weather this spring. But John Gavin of the Bradley County Extension Office says the recent hot weather saved the day for the annual pink tomato festival in Warren.

Three cold snaps during April stunted tomato growth and delayed the usual first of June harvest time by two to three weeks. But Gavin says the first box of local tomatoes was delivered Monday, and more farmers are expected to run harvests before the end of the week.

The tomato festival takes place this weekend in Warren.
