Arkansas youth competed in events for the Arkansas American Legion this weekend.The first was an air rifle competition in North Little Rock.
There was also an oratorical competition in downtown Little Rock.
The high school oratorical contest is more than 70 years old. It is aimed at developing a better knowledge and appreciation for the constitution.
The winner was Danielle Casey. Casey received $2,000 and an opportunity to represent the state on the national level.
Casey's speech was about voting.
"Voting builds up the foundation of our government that people aren't aware of that what our country was built on," Casey said.
Casey is a senior from Houston, Ark. She plans to use the money for college.
Channel 7's Janelle Lilley was a judge for the competition.
