Hoxie train accident victims identified
HOXIE (KATV) —
Union Pacific has released the names of the victims from Sunday's train collision in Northeast Arkansas.
The two men who were killed are engineer Chance Gober of White Hall and conductor Roderick Hayes of McKinney, Texas.
The two men who were injured are engineer Michael Zampakos of Maumelle and conductor Aaron Jeffery of Conway.
The collision happened about 3 a.m. Sunday near Hoxie. An NTSB investigator says the first train was northbound on a single main track when a southbound train collided with it on the same track.
Union Pacific spokesman Brandon Morris says two cars caught fire, one carrying diesel and one carrying an alcoholic beverage. Nearby Hoxie residents were evacuated as a safety precaution. Union Pacific says the resulting fire took about seven hours to extinguish.
