HU's Ty Powell Waived by Seattle Seahawks

SEARCY - Former Harding defensive end Ty Powell was among 22 players waived or released Saturday by the Seattle Seahawks as National Football League teams reduced their rosters to 53 players.

Powell, a native of Marina, Calif., played in three of the Seahawks' four preseason games at defensive end and had nine tackles, including two sacks. In 2012, Powell led Harding with 13.0 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks. He became the fifth Harding player taken in the NFL Draft when the Seahawks selected in the 7th Round.

The Seahawks also cut former Henderson State tight end Sean McGrath.

According to league rules, NFL teams have until 11 a.m. Central Time on Sunday to claim players (like Powell) who have been waived. If a player clears waivers, meaning no other team adds him to their roster, he is eligible to be added to his original team's eight-man practice squad.
