Inmate escapes from central Arkansas jail

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (AP) - Authorities say an inmate has escaped from a central Arkansas jail.

Garland County Sheriff's Department spokesman Lt. James Martin says 33-year-old Derrick Estell escaped from the county detention center at about 1:40 p.m. Sunday.

Martin says Estell escaped in what was apparently an "elaborate plan" with a woman picking him up.

However, authorities didn't release any details about how he escaped.

Late Sunday the Garland County Sheriff's Department issued a statement saying 58-year-old William Harding was in custody in connection with the escape but did not offer details on his arrest or alleged involvement.

Authorities say Estell and any accomplices should be considered armed and dangerous.

Martin says Estell was brought back from the Arkansas Department of Correction for court in Garland County on pending charges.
