I-40 speed limits remain unchanged despite pleas

The Arkansas Highway Department revealed Wednesday that it will keep the speed limit at 70 miles per hour in Interstate 40 construction zones, despite pleas from several Faulkner County officials to reduce the speed limit.

A little over a month after construction started on I-40 between Conway and Little Rock, officials from law enforcement and rescue agencies met to discuss recent accident problems, including more efficient ways to reach injured people and to direct traffic through the congested areas. Many of the same officials met before construction began, but multiple accidents, including one fatality, have forced the parties to re-address their concerns.
