Jacksonville City Council to consider resolution on independent school district

JACKSONVILLE - City Council members will consider a resolution Thursday night urging voters to support the creation of an independent school district.

Jacksonville is currently part of the Pulaski County Special School District.

The council's proposed resolution states, "citizens of Jacksonville have struggled and sought over forty years for each child's right to a quality education and efforts to provide an independent school system, attractive to both current and prospective residents. Having little to no control of our local schools and the detriment created by such has and remains a vital concern for everyone in our community".

The meeting is set for 8 p.m. We'll update the story on Channel 7 News Nightside.

Jacksonville residents will go to the polls on September 16th to say yes or no to the proposal.
