People in Jacksonville are renewing their efforts to create their own school district, separate from Pulaski County Special School District.
A group called the Jacksonville/North Pulaski Education Corps will hold a public meeting Tuesday, November 13th at 7 p.m. to explain details of the plan to make the district independent. The meeting will be held in the Jacksonville Community Center.
According to Education Corps the PCSSD voted unanimously in 2008 to support a separate school district for the northern part of the county, including Jacksonville.
Daniel Gray, spokesman for the Education Corps says, "We can finally make this happen now. There has always been a passion from the community and now we have the legal and structural components in place to bring this effort to a conclusion".
The group says Governor Mike Beebe and Attorney General Dustin McDaniel both support the separation.
