Young people who brought two recyclable items - paper, cardboard, plastic or metal - were given a hot dog with refreshments.
Linda Bobo with the Jefferson County Judge's Office said Friday's event was a trial run. If organizers deem it a success, two more will be held this summer then new programs will be introduced during the coming school year to teach young people about the importance of recycling.
"We are going to try and reach the younger kids and get them excited about recycling," Bobo said.
