Jim Barnes named honorary captain for Samford game

FAYETTEVILLE (AP) - Former Arkansas All-American and All-Southwest Conference selection Jim Barnes has been named the A Club Honorary Captain for Saturday's game between Arkansas and Samford.

Barnes lettered for the Razorbacks from 1966-68 and served as a team captain in the 1968 season. A native of Pine Bluff, Ark., Barnes was a standout offensive guard who combined size and exceptional speed on the gridiron.

Barnes started his career on defense as a linebacker before moving to the offensive side of the ball. His versatility allowed him to be utilized not only at guard, but also at tight end in the Razorbacks' offense.

Following his career at Arkansas, Barnes was named to the UA's All-Decade team for the 1960s and was inducted into the University of Arkansas Sports Hall of Honor in 2007.
