UPDATE: PCSSD school bus hijacking suspect identified
CABOT (KATV) - Jacksonville Police Department has identified 22 year-old Nicholas Miller as the suspect in the PCSSD school bus hijacking.
Police responded to a bus hijacking around 8 a.m. Thursday morning. Officers chased the bus from Jacksonville to Cabot on Highway 5 near Mountain Springs.
According to PCSSD officials, the suspect boarded the school bus headed to Pine Wood Elementary with 11 small children on it at a bus stop. He was armed with a knife. The bus driver was able to keep the children calm and safe.
Prior to the hijacking, Miller allegedly attempted to steal a citizen's car.
The children were removed safely from the school bus, and parents have been notified. PCSSD officials said crisis counselors will be available to speak with the children on the bus.
Miller is in custody. Charges have not been released.
