Jury selection set in 2002 double murder
CONWAY (Log Cabin Democrat) - Jury selection is scheduled to begin next week in Faulkner County Circuit Court for the trial of a man accused in the 2002 murders of two men at a home in Conway.
Richard Conte, 63, is charged with two counts of capital murder in the execution-style shootings of 49-year-old Carter Elliott and 25-year-old Timothy Wayne Robertson.
Both men were shot in the head and were discovered in a home in the Shady Valley subdivision in west Conway on May 19, 2002.
Conte was originally charged in August 2011. Prosecuting Attorney Cody Hiland said a few months later that while the facts in this case are strong, they do not meet the criteria needed for the death penalty to be an option.
The former Nevada emergency room doctor was extradited to Arkansas after serving nine years of a 15-year sentence in Nevada for administering a drug in the commission of a felony and kidnapping his ex-wife, Lark Gathright-Elliott, who was also the ex-wife of murder victim Carter Elliott.
Conte has pleaded not guilty.
