LITTLE ROCK (KATV) - Arkansas drivers may soon be able to provide proof of liability insurance on their smart phones, pending a state Attorney General's ruling.
Representative Andrea Lea of Russellville is requesting an opinion on the matter from Attorney General Dustin McDaniel.
Rep. Lea says, "I can use my smart phone to show my boarding pass to a TSA officer at the airport, Arkansas driver ought to be able to show proof of insurance through a smart phone application offered by their insurance company. It only makes sense that our state moves forward on the use of this technology."
As of now, drivers must show a hard copy of proof of liability insurance if pulled over by police.
Rep. Lea says the request for the Attorney General's opinion is a result of constituents asking her about the issue.
