Lawsuit challenges beer, wine sales proposal

TEXARKANA, Ark. (AP) - Two Texarkana, Arkansas, liquor store owners are challenging a proposal to allow the sale of beer and wine for off-premise consumption in Texarkana, Texas.The Texarkana Gazette reported Sunday ( ) that a lawsuit by Vincent's Fine Wines and Liquors owner Vincent Senatore and Party Factory owner Alan Avard asks a judge in Bowie County, Texas, to forbid the Texarkana, Texas, City Council from placing the question on the November ballot.A hearing is scheduled for Monday morning prior to the Texas-side City Council's regularly scheduled meeting.Supporters of the proposal say the Arkansas retailers are "trying to protect their pocketbooks."The lawsuit alleges the petition for the vote was improperly filed on a Saturday when City Hall was closed and that signatures on the petition were not properly validated.
