Leases again offered for Hot Springs bathhouses
HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (AP) - The National Park Service is again offering two historic bathhouses up for lease in Hot Springs.
The park service says it will issue a request for proposals this week for the Maurice and Hale bathhouses. Officials say they'll also lease the Libbey Memorial Physical Medicine Center.
The Libbey building is located at the intersection of Reserve and Spring streets and was originally built as a bathhouse to serve poor residents.
Officials have been searching for tenants for the vacant bathhouses for years. Last year, the park service announced plans to lease the Hale bathhouse to a nonprofit organization that wanted open a cultural arts center. The group withdrew its proposal in May because its fundraising campaign fell short.
The Sentinel-Record reports (http://bit.ly/12NHE4x ) that proposals will be due Jan. 27, 2014.
