LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Little Rock has signed a contract with a cleanup company to remove debris left behind by the Christmas Day winter storm.
The Thursday announcement was possible because of a federal emergency declaration that will reimburse the city for the costs.
Earlier, city officials estimated there were 22,000 tons of debris piled up in front of homes and businesses. The storm dropped 10 inches of snow on the city and did extensive damage to trees and other greenery.
City Manager Bruce Moore says the contract with Ceres Environmental is for 160 days but that he doesn't think it will take that long to complete the job.Copyright 2013 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.
