PARIS, Ark. (AP) - After discussions for a shared jail between two western Arkansas counties fell through, one of the counties says it's moving forward to develop plans to build its own facility.
Officials in Logan and Franklin counties had been exploring earlier this year in building a 150- to 200-bed jail that would be shared by the two counties.
Logan County Jail Committee board chairman Mike Schluterman tells the Times Record (http://bit.ly/1p5DxiF ) that the committee met earlier this month and decided to consider building its own jail. He says Franklin County officials no longer were interested in sharing a jail.
Logan County has a 34-bed jail in Paris. A jail review committee inspected the facility and told county officials they needed to address issues, including overcrowding.
