Long-serving Arkansas Tech president to step down

RUSSELLVILLE (AP) - Arkansas Tech University President Robert Brown says he's stepping down at the end of this school year after leading the university for more than 20 years.

Brown made the announcement Friday during the annual fall semester opening session with faculty and staff.

Brown has served as president at Arkansas Tech since July 1, 1993. He also is an economics professor, and says he hopes to still be associated with Arkansas Tech once he steps down as president.

The university says Brown is 1 of the longest-serving college presidents in the country. Of the 400 presidents and chancellors working at institutions in the American Association of State Colleges and Universities, only 12 people have served 20 or more years at their current institution.
