Lonoke woman dead, former reserve deputy injured in shooting

AUSTIN (KATV) - A Lonoke County mother is dead and her husband injured after a shooting this morning.

Authorities aren't releasing much information, but we do know that, until recently, one of the victims was a reserve deputy.

Around 8:40 Friday morning county sheriffs were called to a home on Watercrest Lane in Lonoke County. When they got there they found Sharae Bryant dead and her husband, Charlie Bryant, with a gunshot wound to his stomach. The scene and even the street were still taped off in the around 2 p.m. But Lt. Jim Kulesa with the Lonoke County Sheriff's Office did confirm that the man was a former reserve deputy. He resigned a week ago for personal reasons. According to Kulesa, the sheriff immediately handed the investigation to Arkansas State Police due to the department's ties to the man.

"You have to be able to separate yourself from that if you do personally know a person involved in that. A lot of times it is good to have another agency take control of that," said Lt. Kulesa. "Not that by anyway mean would anybody let their personal feelings interfere, but in all fairness to everyone involved, it's best to have another agency handle it."

Charlie Bryant was taken to a local hospital to be treated for his injuries. No word on his condition.
