Lyon hires longtime AD as new football coach

BATESVILLE (AP) - Lyon College has hired longtime baseball coach and athletic director Kirk Kelley to lead its new football program.

Kelley will serve as Lyon's first football coach since 1951. He started up Lyon's first baseball program in 1993 and led the Scots to three appearances in the NAIA regionals. He also served as the school's athletic director.

Kelley also served as athletic director and baseball coach at Oklahoma Wesleyan University from 2009 to 2011 and then served as an associate baseball coach at the University of Central Arkansas.

The college will sign recruits to come to campus and practice starting in the fall of 2014 and all will be redshirted with plans to start playing in fall 2015 in NAIA.
