Magnolia man dies in fall at drilling site
MAGNOLIA (AP) - Authorities say a Magnolia man was killed when he fell from a derrick at a drilling site east of Magnolia.
Officials with Reliance Well Service say 29-year-old Reliance employee Derek "Bundy" Smith died at a Magnolia hospital Tuesday after falling about 60 feet from the derrick to the ground.
Reliance safety director told The Banner-News that Smith struck another employee as he was falling. The condition of the second employee has not been released.
The rig was performing work at an Albemarle Corporation well site. Albemarle produces bromine at its facility in Magnolia.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration's regional office in Little Rock said officials are aware of the incident and will be investigating.Copyright 2013 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.
