Major accident brings eastbound traffic on I-440 to a standstill

UPDATE:{} State Police tell Channel Seven that two of the eastbound lanes on I-440 are now open.{}{} One remains closed as crews continue to clean up the wreck site.

LITTLE ROCK (KATV) A fiery accident involving a car and two semi-trucks shuts down part of Interstate 440. Arkansas State Police say it happened shortly after 2 p.m. on the eastbound lanes of interstate 440 at Fouche near the airport. Traffic is backed up for miles.

The accident caused the tractor trailers to catch fire.{} It is unclear at this point what caused the accident.{} Witnesses in the area tell us they heard multiple explosions.{}

Traffic in the westbound lanes are reportedly moving slow because of the accident.{}{} We have a crew on the scene and will bring you more details as soon as they become available.

Channel Seven's Justin Lewis is on the scene as crews continue to battle the blaze. He will have live reports coming up at 5 & 6.

NEW: A State trooper tells Justin Lewis the preliminary reports show a Chevy Impala was in reverse on the interstate, an 18-wheeler hit the car and burst into flames. Police confirm one fatality. Driver and passenger of Impala were taken to local hospitals. Little Rock fire fighters can be seen going through ashes.
