MAGNOLIA (AP) - A man who did plumbing work for a 74-year-old Magnolia woman has pleaded guilty to murdering her.
A judge on Thursday sentenced 33-year-old Robert Harrison of Emerson to life in prison after he pleaded guilty to first-degree murder for the slaying of Glenda Stroman.
Harrison earlier rejected the same plea deal but on Thursday acknowledged he killed Stroman, who was found May 27 by her son-in-law beaten and with her throat cut.
Harrison is also charged with attempted escape after allegedly trying to get free from the Columbia County Jail on Nov. 28.
The Banner-News reports Harrison was originally charged with capital murder in Storman's death and his plea agreement enabled him to avoid having to face a possible death sentence had he been convicted at trial.Copyright 2013 The Associated Press.
