Man who skipped trial in Arkansas caught in Mich.

WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. (AP) - Authorities say a man who was a no-show at his rape trial in eastern Arkansas has been captured in Michigan.

West Memphis Police Capt. Ken Mitchell says Stanley Carter was arrested Thursday night in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Carter, who was free on bond, was the defendant in a rape trial this week in Crittenden County. Authorities said Carter didn't show up for court proceedings Wednesday.

The trial continued in his absence and a jury convicted Carter of 3 counts of rape. The judge presiding over the trial issued a warrant for Carter's arrest.

Authorities say Carter is currently being held at a jail in Kent County awaiting extradition to Arkansas.
