Many roads in Arkansas ice-covered after storm
LITTLE ROCK (AP) - Many schools and businesses are closed throughout Arkansas after freezing rain left an icy glaze on roads.
Several schools in central Arkansas have a two-hour late start on Thursday, as do state workers in the Little Rock area. The freezing rain and sleet began falling a day earlier, and Arkansas State Police reported three traffic fatalities on icy roads Wednesday.
A winter weather advisory or freezing rain advisory is in effect until 9 a.m. Thursday in much of the state.
The Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department says many roads and interstates in Arkansas have ice or icy patches, including Interstate 40 west of Conway and parts of Interstate 540.
The National Weather Service says travel conditions are expected to be hazardous until mid-morning Thursday when temperatures rise above freezing.Copyright 2014 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.
