Marijuana vending machine companies sue Jerry Cox

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Two companies that make marijuana vending machines have filed federal defamation lawsuits against the Arkansas Family Council and want a judge to order the conservative lobbying group to stop using images of the machines.

One company sued on Friday and the other on Thursday, naming Family Council director Jerry Cox, who has led opposition to a ballot item that would legalize medical marijuana in Arkansas.

Cox used images of a Medbox marijuana vending machine during a news conference in which he argued that the machines would be part of an effort to make it easy for people to get marijuana, whether they have medical conditions or not.

1 of the motions has been denied, but U.S. District Judge Brian Miller said the company should schedule a hearing.
