EL DORADO, Ark. (AP) - A Mexican national has been sentenced in Arkansas to five years in prison for possessing with intent to distribute more than 500 grams of methamphetamine.
The El Dorado News-Times reports (http://bit.ly/1c6IG3N) that 58-year-old Ignacio Barojas Diaz pleaded guilty to the charge in May.
He was sentenced Wednesday at the El Dorado federal courthouse.
An officer stopped Diaz for reckless driving in December 2012 and he was arrested for not having a driver's license. During a subsequent search of the car, authorities found three wrapped bundles of meth stowed in the engine compartment, which had an estimated street value of $500,000.
U.S. District Judge Susan Hickey told Diaz he will probably be deported when he's released and didn't impose a period of supervised release to follow his prison term.
