Ministers work to stop Pine Bluff Violence after Thanksgiving Day Homicide
(KATV) A homicide inPine Bluff on Thanksgiving Day likely took place while a child was present inthe home, according to police. Pine Bluff Police were called Thursday to an apartment where 25 year-oldDametrick McDaniel was found dead.
Police said his three yearold daughter was likely at home at the time and made her way over to a nearbyapartment. That's when police were called discovered McDaniel's open apartmentand his body inside. There are no suspects at this time, but police are lookingfor 23 year-old Brandon McClatchie for questioning.
Today community leadersspoke out in hopes of curbing gun violence in the city.
"We are concerned aboutthe number of homicides that happened the last 18 days or so and this why we aspastors are out here on the street, trying to let folk know that you need tostay away from that kind of conflict resolution," said Jesse Turner Executive Direct of Pen orPencil program.
They're working to educateyoung people in order to keep them away from crime.
"The last of the threekillings have been in about a three block radius of my church," said HenryHellums, pastor of the Truth and Love Worship Center.
The group has been workingto install signs in the city to remind people violence is not the answer tosolving problems.
"We're speaking in the streets, sendingliterature out to various neighborhoods, going into neighborhoods and speaking,"said Kerry Price, pastor Breath of Life Church.
Shamar Womack lives justdown the street from Thursday's homicide. He says he keeps a tight watch on histwin boys.
"Sometimes when I'm out,let them play, I stay out with them and watch them you know while we play," Womacksaid.
The Pine Bluff Police ask anyonewith information on yesterday's homicide to call the department.
