Miss Arkansas prepares for Saturday's Miss America competition

Sloane Roberts crowned Miss Arkansas in Hot Springs

Miss Arkansas is preparing to take the stage in the Miss America contest.

Sloane Roberts was crowned last July in Hot Springs and is now in Las Vegas where she is one of 53 contestants. There is one contestant from each state plus representatives from the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

Each woman will be judged in several categories including swimsuit, evening gown, talent, and interview. The Rison native has faced some of the contestants before.

"I actually competed in the National Teen Pageant back in 2008 and I'm here with four other girls I competed with then. So to be able to rekindle some of those friendships, start all over again and pick up where we left off has just been so much fun and I'm hoping that as the week continues I can really get to know these girls and create some lasting friendships."

The 19-year-old is a senior at the University of Arkansas. Roberts will be performing a tap routine as her talent.

The next Miss America will be crowed live on KATV Channel 7 Saturday beginning at 8 PM.
