LITTLE ROCK (AP) - A group that promotes public-private partnerships to use university research as a way to develop products that can be brought to market says the state needs more investment in research to help create more jobs.
The Arkansas Research Alliance on Tuesday released a study that says the state has a solid foundation for organizations to incubate and launch knowledge-based businesses.
But the level of spending on university research in Arkansas is less than half the national average. The alliance, which is made up of university officials and business executives, says the state needs to boost the level of state tax dollars devoted to research.
Gov. Mike Beebe says he's working to provide at least part of $24 million the group wants to see in next year's budget.Copyright 2012 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.
