Morning walk turns into critical injuries after woman hit by car
LITTLE ROCK (KATV) —
A Little Rock woman remains in critical condition from major injuries suffered after being hit by a car while crossing a street Tuesday morning.
Little Rock Police Department tells Channel 7 that 63-year-old Justine Valla was crossing H Street near the corner of McAdoo Street, on a crosswalk, when she was struck by an oncoming car.
The driver of that vehicle has been identified as Richard Odena, 51, of Little Rock. Odena told authorities the sun was blinding his view and he never saw Valla until his car hit her.
Odena was given a citation for careless driving. He also had a 4-year-old in a car seat with him.
Neighbors Channel 7 spoke to on Tuesday said Mrs. Valla is known to go on routine walks every morning, and it seemed Tuesday was no different since the incident happened just before 8 am.
The area of the accident is also in a school zone with a posted speed limit of 25 mph. LRPD said there is no indication how fast the vehicle was traveling, and won't be determined until reconstruction of the incident is complete.
