NEWPORT (KATV) - 18-month-old Tacari Briggs will be laid to rest on Wednesday. The infant was murdered Friday morning in Newport.
Tacari's mother Delana Aguirre spoke out for the first time since the senseless killing. Investigators say Robert Friar shot Tacari as well as Delana from outside their bedroom window.
Delana was shot three times but survived her injuries. Tacari, though, was pronounced dead shortly after the shooting.
Delana said Friar was her ex-boyfriend and he had been violent in the past, but she never imagined he'd commit such a heinous crime. She told Channel 7 News she tries to focus her energy on remembering her daughter and not on being angry at Friar.
"She had a whole life ahead of her, but I look at it like she's in a better place," Aguirre said.
Friar is behind bars. He's charged with capital murder.
