NE Ark. plant closing, 400 jobs to be lost

BATESVILLE (KAIT) - Pilgrim's Pride will shut down its facility in Batesville in 60 days, laying off 400 workers in the process.

In an email to KAIT, our ABC station in northeast Arkansas, the Independence County Economic Development Incorporation, county judge and quorum court announced they had already approved an incentive package to encourage another food processing company to resume operations at the complex and rehire workers in anticipation to the closing of the facility.

Ozark Mountain Poultry in Rogers has shown interest in the facility. Independence County Economic Development and the Arkansas Economic Development Commission are working with Ozark Mountain Poultry to find a deal to solidify that move.
