Little Rock Fire Department opened a new station Monday in West Little Rock. The location on Rahling Road is the first new station in 20 years. The new location is expected to help fire fighters improve their response time to residents in that area. That, in turn, will save property and lives.
The fire department received a $2 Million grant from the federal government to build the station. Still, Mayor Mark Stodola says that the fire station would not have been possible without new local tax money.
"If it had not been for the citizens positive vote on the sales tax in September 201, this fire station would not have been built. So we owe a debt of gratitude to our citizens," Stodola said.
The mayor and Chief Gregory Summers say this project has been 17 years in the making. The total cost of the new fire station is $2.6 Million.
