New low-cost spay, neuter clinic opens in Little Rock
Release via Arkansas for Animals, Inc.
Arkansans for Animals, Inc. opened the first low-cost, high-quality spay/neuter clinic in Little Rock, Arkansas on October 31, 2011. Located at 11707 Hwy I-30, Suite 2 in Little Rock, Operation SAVE, funded in part by PetSmart Charities, will provide local pet owners with more affordable spay/neuter services for their dogs and cats.
As a high volume clinic, the goal is to provide over 6,000 spay/neuter surgeries annually, preventing thousands of unwanted births and more homeless pets in the community. The fees for surgeries will range from $35 for cats to $65 for dogs regardless of size or gender.
"Our goal is to make spay/neuter services more affordable to pet owners who might not otherwise be able to sterilize their pets," says Jake Hillard, the Executive Director for Arkansans for Animals, Inc. "With thousands of homeless and unwanted dogs and cats being euthanized every year in our community and many more dying on our streets, spaying and neutering services are essential to solving our homeless pet overpopulation problem."
Arkansans for Animals' Operation SAVE received $47,600 in grant funding from PetSmart Charities for clinic equipment and supplies. Since 2005, PetSmart Charities has provided more than $7 million in grant funding to animal welfare agencies in the United States to start or expand spay/neuter clinics, resulting in more than 750,000 surgeries that have helped reduce the homeless-pet population, shelter intake and euthanasia.
Spaying or neutering just one pet can prevent the birth of 55 puppies or kittens over that pet's lifetime--pets that would likely be destined for the streets or for animal shelters.
"Adoption alone cannot end the homeless pet problem; we also need organizations like Arkansans for Animals, Inc. to offer low-cost, high quality spay/neuter services in Arkansas," said Susana Della Maddelena, vice president and executive director at PetSmart Charities, Inc. "PetSmart Charities is proud to be able to support life-saving initiatives like these."
Operation SAVE will be open Monday-Thursday from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm. For more information or to schedule your pet's spay/neuter surgery, call (501) 455-5400.
