      New trial set for September in Hastings case

      LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - After jurors failed to reach a verdict in the manslaughter trial of a former Little Rock police officer, a judge has set a new trial date.

      Circuit Judge Wendell Griffen scheduled trial to start Sept. 19 and he set aside three weeks for the proceeding.

      Hastings was charged after he fatally shot 15-year-old Bobby Moore III while investigating car break-ins at a west Little Rock apartment complex.

      Testimony began Wednesday and jurors heard closing arguments Saturday morning. They deliberated Saturday and Sunday without being able to reach a verdict. Griffen declared a mistrial.

      A pretrial hearing for Hastings' retrial is set for Aug. 27.
