NLR Officer Tommy to receive Distinguished Service Award
(KATV, Source: NLRSchool District) On October 8th at the North Little Rock City Council Meeting (300 MainStreet, North Little Rock AR) North Little Rock Police Officer Tommy Normanwill receive the National Chapter Military Order of World Wars Law and OrderDistinguished Service Award, recognizing his sustained outstanding performance.
In recognition for the mostoutstanding Law Enforcement or Criminal Justice Official in the United Statesas submitted by the Central Arkansas Chapter of the Order during the periodJuly 1, 2011-June 30, 2012. This is the highest individual award that canbe received through the MOWW.
A patrol officer since 1998, Officer Norman is well-known inNorth Little Rock for his community service. Local children know him from the"Back to School" event where he distributes backpacks and sneakers tochildren in need or as the lead officer for the Star Student Program at localschools. During the holidays he coordinates community programs such as"Shop With a Cop", which he established 5 years ago, and the"Season of Giving" which he created 12 yearsago. When Tommy is not patrolling, you can usually find him involved involunteer work, as he raises money for the Special Olympics by participating inthe Law Enforcement Torch Run or with Krispy Krème's "Cops on Top"fundraiser.
His supervisors say he builds "lastingrelationships" with residents and is a remarkable role model for children;the far-reaching word on the street about Officer Norman even compelled amurder suspect in a neighboring city in 2001 to find Tommy, who thenfacilitated his surrender.
