North Little Rock Kids' Fire Academy

NORTH LITTLE ROCK (KATV) - Kids dragged hoses, rescued dummies and put out fake flames as part of the North Little Rock Kids Fire Academy Thursday.

Junior firefighters ran through obstacle courses, learned first aid training and bike and fire safety. The kids even got to eat lunch with the fire crew at the Central Station.

The atmosphere was both fun and educational in an attempt to help kids remember such important lessons.

"Safety first," said Fire Marshal Dean Simmons. "We're [taught] them some techniques, fire safety. We want them to have a good time and enjoy it, but we want them to retain what we teach them."

Firefighters will host another two-day kids academy August 1-2. Reserve a spot for your junior firefighter by e-mailing or calling (501) 812-5942 or (501) 812-5941.
