Nucor seeks bond help for planned $115M expansion

BLYTHEVILLE (AP) - Nucor-Yamoto Steel is asking Blytheville to enter into an agreement to issue bonds to finance a planned $115 million expansion of the company's steel mill.

The Blytheville City Council is to consider the request on Tuesday. Nucor announced planned expansion last year. It's expected to create between 10 and 15 jobs.

The Blytheville Courier News reports the company wants to add a new line so it can produce a new product known as wide sheet piling. The product will complement Nucor's existing products.

Nucor has been active lately in opposing a $125 million state financing package for Big River Steel, a $1.1 billion mill that would also be located in Mississippi County.
