LITTLE ROCK (KATV) - The man shot by a parks officer at Pinnacle Mountain State Park Tuesday evening was found by police after he checked himself into a hospital.

The entire matter started as a stakeout because park police have been following a string of break-ins across the area in recent weeks. Two officers approached a car Tuesday evening with three men inside because the car matched the description they had in connection to those break-ins.

That's when police said the driver, later identified as 52-year-old Mark Anthony Wyrick, revved his engine and started driving at the officers, hitting one in the arm. The other officer fired into the vehicle, hitting Wyrick.

Shortly after that, all three people inside the suspect vehicle jumped out. Wyrick took off into the woods but 46-year-old John Nutt and Martinaze Ingram were taken into custody.

Investigators launched the Arkansas State Police chopper as well as six K-9 unit dogs to search for Wyrick but he reportedly stole a white F-150 with the Arkansas State Parks emblem on the side and left the park. He wasn't found until he checked himself into a hospital to get treated for his gunshot wound.

Wyrick will be taken into custody as soon as he is released by doctors. No word yet on what charges the men will face.

The officer who was hit is said to be okay.
