Plane crashes on pilot's first solo flight
MORRILTON (Petit Jean Country Headlight) - A former Perry County deputy prosecutor and current Bigelow school teacher escaped serious injury when the plane she was piloting crashed Monday morning at the Morrilton Municipal Airport.
Morrilton Police Chief Sonny Stover said 49-year-old Lisa George of Perryville was on her first solo flight and had trouble landing.
"As she came in to do a landing, she touched down and, for some reason, the plane veered off the runway to the left, causing her to run down into a ditch where it broke the wheel off," Stover explained. "The nose of the plane then plowed into the other side of the bank, causing the plane to flip over on its roof."
George was able to exit the plane without help, and suffered mostly minor injuries. She was taken to St. Vincent Morrilton where she was treated for a broken nose and injuries to her mouth and neck.
Stover said further investigation into the crash was turned over to the Federal Aviation Administration.
