Planning commission approves expansion at Oaklawn
HOT SPRINGS (AP) - City planners in Hot Springs have approved a major expansion for the casino area at Oaklawn Park.
The Hot Springs Planning Commission approved the site plan Thursday for the racetrack. Oaklawn says the park has experienced major growth since the state legalized electronic gambling at the state's two racetracks in Hot Springs and West Memphis.
Oaklawn Park General Manager Eric Jackson has said construction work will likely begin in May 2014 after Oaklawn finishes up its live racing season.
The Sentinel-Record reports that the expansion calls for an expansion of the park's warehouse and office area. The expansion would also add nearly 35,000 square feet to the park's gambling area, which will add about 500 new gambling positions.Copyright 2013 The Associated Press. All rights reserved.
