LITTLE ROCK (KATV) - The system that accepts online credit card payments for property taxes failed Monday morning.
Pulaski County Treasurer Deborah Buckner told Channel 7 News the Information System of Arkansas went down around 7:00 a.m. Her office has since obtained an emergency court order to extend the payment deadline through 11:59 p.m. Tuesday for online credit card payments and telephone payments.
Buckner said the system was running slow on Friday as well so they asked if it would be able to handle Monday's expected surge in payments. She said this is a big inconvenience for tax payers as Monday is the deadline to pay property taxes before extra fees are added on.
People also can payments by check, cash or money order on Monday, but not on Tuesday without having to pay the late penalty.
Monday is also the deadline for taxpayers who filed an extension on their federal income taxes.
The Saline County Treasurer's Office told Channel 7 News they hope to have the system back up and running by 12:30 p.m. Chief administrator Debbye Wolter, however, told the Associated Press she didn't know when the technical issue will be resolved.
