Pryor criticizes Cotton over shutdown in new ad
LITTLE ROCK (AP) - Democratic U.S. Sen. Mark Pryor is blaming Republican rival and U.S. Rep. Tom Cotton for the budget standoff that shut down the federal government in a new television ad airing in Arkansas.
Pryor's campaign on Tuesday said it had begun airing a new ad statewide targeting Cotton over the 16-day shutdown, which ended last week with legislation that also raised the nation's borrowing limit. The 30-second spot criticizes Cotton for supporting the push to tie spending bills to defunding the federal health care law, a move that led to the budget standoff.
Cotton's campaign criticized the ad and noted that he backed proposals to fund the government in exchange for other concessions on the federal health care law.
Pryor is seeking a third term. Cotton represents Arkansas' 4th Congressional District.Copyright 2013 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.
