Recount for Jefferson County Judge Nomination
Jefferson County (KATV) - UPDATE: Dutch King remains the Democratic nomination for Jefferson County Judge. After recounting the early votes from request of Ivan Whitfield, Dutch King will likely be the Jefferson County Judge after November. Nine members of the Jefferson County Election Commission starting counting the 3,560 early votes at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday night and did not finish until 10:45 p.m. REASON FOR RECOUNT A week after Primary Election Day, a Jefferson County Candidate is asking for a recount. The Election Commission in Pine Bluff spent Tuesday recounting only the early votes in a very tight unopposed, democratic Judge's race. On Primary Election Night, incumbent Democratic Judge Dutch King had beaten Ivan Whitfield by the narrow margin of 107 votes. Whitfield says he went into the Election Commission office to pay for a recount, when he was notified that a real time audit log was misplaced on Election Day. A real time audit log (RTAL) tracks the data from electronic pools. During Election Day, a RTAL ran out of paper creating the need for an eighth reel. That reel was found underneath a duffle bag later on Election Day. Whitfield asked the commission to only count the early votes, about 35 hundred. Not a full recount from Election Day. Jefferson County Election Commissioner Will Fox says this primary so important because there isn't a Republican candidate running. "Typically the races here are decided here in the primary," say Will Fox. "They're typically hasn't been a Republican candidate for the November races." .
