Red River body identified as that of Utah man
GARLAND CITY, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas officials say a body recovered from the Red River was that of a man who fell from a boat last week.
The Miller County emergency management office identified the dead man as 60-year-old Bill Cooper from Utah. He was in the boat with 56-year-old John Fairbanks, and a search for Fairbanks resumed Friday.
The Texarkana Gazette (http://bit.ly/13GKWZG ) reported that Cooper's body was recovered Thursday from a log jam about 10 miles downstream from where the two men fell from the boat June 7.
Emergency officials said the search started after the men and Julia Lopez of Texarkana, Ark., were trying to anchor. Lopez was rescued by passing boaters but lost sight of Cooper and Fairbanks, her father and boyfriend.
Lopez was wearing a life jacket.
