NORTH LITTLE ROCK (KATV) - The family of a murdered Little Rock man hopes reward money will help apply heat to a cold case. The Pulaski County sheriff's department has fifteen unsolved murder cases on the books. But only one of those cases will observe an anniversary on Tuesday. Friends and family of Jason Jackson will gather at Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock on April 22nd at 6:00. If you know something about Jackson's murder three years ago, they're offering 5,000 reasons to show up and share. It's rather rare to have news footage of a murder victim, but KATV did a story on staff sergeant Jason Jackson in March of 2009. It focused on the sometimes difficult transition from military service overseas back to civilian life and the possibility that he could one day Jackson could be deployed again. Two years later the soldier was shot and killed while sitting in his vehicle on Arch Street in the Landmark community. And now three years after that...no one has been charged. "It is frustrating," says Hinton. "It's an endurance issue for us. I mean, how much longer can we go without something?" Hinton says he believes he knows who killed his son...or at least who had Jason Jackson killed. The coroner's office mistakenly gave a copy of its file to the prime suspect, and shortly thereafter that prime suspect moved out of state. His son also served Pulaski County as a sheriff's deputy. Hinton knows investigators want to catch their former comrade's killer. He wants to help. "We are offering a $5,000 reward from his family, from our family, to give to you that would lead to a conviction of a person," says Hinton. "We just need to bring some closure to this and bring justice for Jason." Tuesday evening at 6:00 Hinton and others...including investigators...will gather under the pavilion at Arkansas Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock (1501 West Maryland Ave) to remember Jason Jackson. Air date: April 21st, 2014
